MUSIC COMPARISON

WONT STOP TILL SURRENDER....

For these weeks comparison I will be taking two songs that happen to really like.  Both versions are awesome take a listen....

THE TEMPER TRAP - SWEET DISPOSITION

ELLIE GOULDING - SWEET DISPOSITION

These songs are simply perfectly amazing!  The original song done by the Temper Traps is brilliantly written and performed with a beautiful melody that really helps move the song forward.  Then there's the Ellie Goulding version which is so different but also so perfect.  Both songs play with a lot of elements the same.  For example the organization amongst the two is relatively similar with small build ups throughout the song as well as comparable emotional structures.  The beginning of the songs starts out simple, only a few instrumentals like the guitar.  What they were playing was completely different however it was a similar build up as the chorus kicks in.  This is where we witness the first change in the two, the Temper Trap version continues at the same rhythmic pace and more instrumentals are added on whereas the Ellie Goulding cover stays solely with the guitar.  Now I would like to focus more on the cover song.
This song is beautiful!  Ellie Goulding's voice is amazing and her adaptation of the song on guitar is sensational.  She completely strays away from Temper Trap's faster version with the rolling guitar line for a more soft and delicate guitar.  The rhythm of the two songs is completely different however you can still hear the original song in the covered version.  The Temper Trap's use a faster guitar riff so their song sounds as though it moving faster, while Ellie Goulding slows her riff down giving a more somber and emotional effect.  The original version also tends to be louder building to an awesome ending part where all the instrumentals are playing at once in a melodic cacophony of beautiful sound.  The pitch and timbre of the two songs are very similar in the sense that they are trying to evoke the same emotional appeal.
The original version is also a brilliantly written song.  The speed is faster then Goulding's cover version but then the vocalist contrast this fast and moving melody by holding his notes longer.  This really creates a beautiful effect where the song continues to move but the vocalist is holding this long note.   There is also a really nice contrast between the two songs in terms of vocalists because Ellie is a femal and Dougy Mandagi, the lead singer for the Temper Traps, is a male.  This gives the songs completely different sounds even though the singers are in the same key.  These two songs are so well written and produced its hard not to fall in love with them.
